Why a business should record depreciation in the annual account?

Why a business should record depreciation in the annual account?
Depreciation distributes the cost of using a long term asset over the life of that asset. For example if you use a truck as part of your business that costs 100,000 US$ and has a life of 10 years, you have a few choices.
a) Charge the entire 100,000 in the first year, understate income in the first year and over state it in the remaining 9 years the truck get used.

b) Charge the 100,000 divided by the life of the truck (10 years) = 10,000 every year the truck get used and allow for a more fair distribution.

c) Charge the 100,000 divided by the schedule allowed in the tax code to get a tax break by charging off the asset more quickly than real life.

Not using it would understate business expenses and overstate income as illustrated above

Do you want your taxes withheld?

Do you want your taxes withheld?
I think we used to say the best thing was to not have anything with held and self-withold by putting money in a money market fund or something and earn interest instead of letting the government earn it. But a few years ago I think tax law began to include a provision that if your withholding (or estimated quarterly returns) didn't come close to your tax liability you had to pay a penalty. My understanding is NOW that makes the strategy of under with holding not a good idea. The essense of the above is correct, except the underpayment penalty and interest due has been law for a very, very long time. Perhaps it is the advent of the computer and use by the IRS that makes this very mechanical calculation virtually always checked and any discrepancies charged.

What are the difference between direct finance and indirect finace?

What are the difference between direct finance and indirect finace?
Indirect Financing: Like the name implies, indirect financing occurs when you go through another institution to secure your loan. In the auto industry, indirect financing entails working through the dealer to finance the purchase. The process is usually obtaining dealer financing, as the dealer does the loan up front and then sells it to a third party lender.Direct Financing: Instead of going through the middlemen to secure the money you need to make your purchase, direct financing allows you to work directly with lenders to secure the best terms and interest rate possible. Once you are approved for a loan through the lender they will give you parameters to stay within by use of a pre approval or even a voucher to pay for your purchase, allowing you to use the money you need to finance your new car at any dealership of your choice as if you where a cash buyer.

How does living in a capitalist society affect mental health?

How does living in a capitalist society affect mental health?
Speaking as an entrepreneur -- a small business owner -- living in a capitalist society is very important for my mental well-being. (I could be mentally healthy in an authoritarian regime, but I wouldn't be happy about it.)

Here are a few of the benefits I see:
- Having more control over my own fate
- Creating, inventing, improving, and selling products and services that people want
- Organizing endeavors, hiring people to help make it happen
- Access to capital from banks or other investors to help me do more than I could do on my own
- The opportunity to make a lot of money, and provide for my own and my family's security
- The opportunity to own my home and other property and shape them to my own needs
- Being forced by competition to stay on my toes, innovate, keep offering better things
- Feedback from the marketplace in the form of revenue and profits to tell me how good a job I'm doing
- The joy of seeing customers benefit from what I produce

Some authoritarian regimes have a limited capitalist "grey market" that allows some of these dynamics, albeit hobbled by lack of infrastructure and law and security.

"What about socialist societies," you might ask. The problem is, I don't see any socialist economies. Ones that start out to be socialist move either toward authoritarianism or capitalism. Why is this? Capitalism (with free markets) plus democracy (with open elections) are the best ways for large numbers of people to make good joint decisions. Anything else ends up as small elites making decisions for everybody else. And having others make your life decisions is not conducive to mental well-being for most people.

The fruits of capitalism are relied upon by everyone in the world. New technologies, medical care, consumer products, agricultural products -- all these are developed and provided primarily by capitalist societies. We all rely on these for our well-being, mental and physical. And when disasters occur (e.g., earthquakes, tsumanis, epidemics, famine), it's the capitalist nations that provide the relief efforts.

We've all seen abuses of capitalism, just as we've seen abuses of democracy. These occur when sub-groups grab too much power and use it to exploit others. Societies work best when the economic and political processes counterbalance each other and prevent abusive concentration of power.

Should you use business planning software to create your business plan?

Should you use business planning software to create your business plan?
Business Planning Software No, no and no. Absolutely not. Not only are these software packages a waste of time and money, they are also very confusing and make the planning process much more difficult for a first time entrepreneur. They really serve no purpose, as no two business plans are alike. They don't actually create the plan for you and you should never consider filling in the blanks to an existing one. This is called "canning" and is widely recognized as a farce in the business world. You don't want your plan to lack research, thought and originality! I have tested a variety of these software titles and found that it is much easier to create a business plan using Word, Works Word Processor or Word Perfect. Excel or a Works Spreadsheet will come in handy for developing your financial projections or contact your accountant. Your best bet is to invest the couple hundred of dollars you were going to spend on planning software on some self-help books for how to construct a solid business plan.

Answer
Although they are not the best for professional business people, BP software could be a great starting point for someone not in the industry. Generally they all come with the same framework and some offer interesting tips and hints... kind of like having a tutor to help you out. So if you know nothing about business plans and don't know where to find the information then go ahead and try one out... some give 30 day free trials.

Answer
You can find a lot of solid information, including a business plan model at the US Small Business Administration website (see the related link).

How does the scrap value affect the useful life of an equipment?

How does the scrap value affect the useful life of an equipment?
It is more likely to be the other way round! If an item of equipment is going to be disposed of by a company, and if the item still has a good useful life to another owner, the scrap value will be higher than the scrap value of a similar piece of equipment that is beyond economic repair and use.

This being so, a company has to take a calculated economic view of its equipment. Should they retain it until it is totally worn out, scrap value nil, or should they dispose of it earlier, while it is still in good working order, and thus be able to reduce the overall 'lifetime cost' of the item? Another consideration is the cost of replacement. If the item has to be replaced, will a newer piece of equipment have a greater of lesser 'lifetime cost' than the item being scrapped? Sometimes there is a fine balance to be struck. Other times the calculations show exactly what the right decision would be and exactly when the disposal should be made.

Good names for black horses?

Good names for black horses?
I too was looking for a name that would fit my newly purchased solid black Paint mare, the final names that I chose were very unique (probably because I made them up myself).

Echanted Lilly; I have never heard of a black horse named after something that is white, my best friend's name was Lilly and I liked that name very much. Because of its uniqueness (a white flower named after a black horse) it would have to be almost enchanted to be real. So, Enchanted Lilly.

Ebony's Serenity; I ended up choosing this name for my black horse, only because her past name was Ebony, and I didn't want to change her name too much but I didn't want to name it after I found out that 60% of black horses are named as Ebony. She was a rescue and needed 'serenity' (peace), so I decided on Ebony's Serenity.

Another option is After Dark, Fantastic, Midnight Stealth, Midnight Warrior, Charm of Midnight, Midnight Belle, or Sister's Angel (which really is a kinder way of saying Dark Angel).

Is there a program that can help you manage your inventory from your iPad?

Is there a program that can help you manage your inventory from your iPad?
There are a few, some good and some not so good. Most of them are industry specific, so to find the best one for you, I really need to know what industry you work in. I work in the entertainment industry renting stages and equipment for events. So for me, I use Inventory software on my iPad that is designed for rental equipment (tracking, gps, multiple locations etc)
But whatever inventory software you use on a mobile device, it will most likely be dependent on you having an internet connection, so consider that fact carefully before you settle on using an iPad. You may be working in a basement or somewhere without a connection and if that is the case, the iPad although totally useful and convenient, will not really do the job for you.
One more thing, always read reviews before you buy. There are lots of free inventory programs out there, but a lot of them are pretty unreliable from my experience.
Hope this helps.

Do you agree that virtual teams is the answer for most work related issues when it comes to flexible work schedules?

Do you agree that virtual teams is the answer for most work related issues when it comes to flexible work schedules?
Virtual teams significantly reduces office expenses as well as parking lot and commuter expenses. In many cases it reduces corporate travel expense as well. It may or may not increase schedule flexibility (as it may still be a requirement that everyone on a team be available for calls, IMs, or email responses between hours X and Y. However it clearly eliminates time wasted getting to and from a central office.

Supporting virtual teams is much easier as technology provides ways of screen sharing and conference calling.

People can live in small towns or even farms and participate on a virtual team.

What are the significance of Cost volume profit analysis?

What are the significance of Cost volume profit analysis?
CVP commonly known as cost-volume-profit analysis is used to determine how changes in costs and volume affect a company's operating income and net income. There are assumptions made, including: sales price per unit is constant, variable costs per unit are constant, total fixed costs are constant, everything produced is sold, costs are only affected because activity changes, and if a company sells more than one product, they are sold.

What caused the 20072008 decline in housing prices?

What caused the 20072008 decline in housing prices?
too much supply (overbuilt) for too little demand coupled with a credit crunch which led to higher interest rates on mortgages (especially hurting ARM holders whose variable reset was much higher than what they were used to paying). It also made it more difficult for people with less-than-perfect credit obtain a mortgage at a reasonable rate. Therefore as people wanted to sell their homes, buyers were unable to obtain loans to purchase. This forced sellers to lower their home prices in a vicious circle that ultimately led to the actual market value of many peoples' homes to drop below the amount of their mortgage menaing there was negative equity in the home. At the same time the stock market dropped significantly and unemployment rose to a current 6.1%.. with more people unemployed, more people were missing their mortgage payments, especially those with lower credit ratings (i.e. sub-prime). Mortgage lenders were selling their loans to banks who packaged them up with other mortgages.. prime and sub-prime, and loans to create Mortgage-Backed Securities which were in turn sold to other banks, investors, and governments around the world. These securities, including CDOs and CLOs were rated AAA (the highest quality, lowest risk) by various credit rating agencies. Once people starting defaulting on the sub-prime loans the faith in these mortgage backed securities weakened and became riskier and were no longer AAA rated. This caused a huge downward spiral in their price as no bank wanted to trade these anymore and could not liquidate positions.

CAN I QUALIFAY FOR A HOUSE LOAN IF I HAD CHAPTER 13?

CAN I QUALIFAY FOR A HOUSE LOAN IF I HAD CHAPTER 13?
Yes it is possible to qualify for a mortgage despite a Chapter 13 bankruptcy filing. In a Chapter 13 filing the debtor agrees to a court structured debt repayment schedule. Typically, after making payments on time to creditors as required by the bankruptcy agreement an individual can be discharged by the Court from the Chapter 13 proceeding.
Once discharged from bankruptcy an individual can apply for a mortgage. Each bank has different rules about how soon someone can apply for a mortgage after a bankruptcy. Most people coming out of bankruptcy apply for an FHA mortgage loan since this program has the most lenient underwriting standards.

What is the calculation of everything earned on an investment'?

What is the calculation of everything earned on an investment'?
Depends how you are calculating return. Typically, NPV (net present value) is the most comprehensive measure of the value of an investment, which is the sum of all discounted cash flows generated by the investment:

CF(0) + CF(1)/(1+r)1 + CF(2)/(1+r)2 + ... + CF(n)/(r+r)n

Where CF(n) is the cash flow at the end of year (or period) n, and r is the discount rate (determined by the cost of capital of the investment). Note, NPV should also take into consideration the opportunity cost of the investment (that is, any cash flow foregone by pursuing the current investment as opposed to other alternative uses of the cash). The discount rate should be a measure of the risk associated with the cash flow, and, as mentioned, the cost of capital.

IRR (internal rate of return) is another common measure of return on investments, but there are additional caveats with this analysis (it does not take into consideration the scale of the investment, and it does not work for certain sets of cash flows, such as when there are alternating positive and negative cash flow). It is usually benchmarked against some other measure, such as a hurdle rate, to determine whether an investment is profitable.

Identify some management jobs that are greatly influenced by human behavior and not so which would you preffer and why?

Identify some management jobs that are greatly influenced by human behavior and not so which would you preffer and why?
Most management jobs involve a large amount of interaction with people. Probably the single most would be a HR Manager as their role is about people, not just that people are involved in performing of the function they manage.

At the opposite end of the scale there are management jobs which do not involve the management of people at all, but rather technology or areas. A manager responsible for an area of a wildlife reserve could spend very little time with other humans. A manager of a server or a number of servers could equally spend most of their time not with other humans, but rather in a data centre managing computers.

Most people (myself included) prefer a mix of the two. People are fun, but equally sometimes they can be annoying. Most management jobs include management of projects and budgets not just the management of the team and the team's function.

Is it necessary to have pet insurance?

Is it necessary to have pet insurance?
Caring for your pet is like caring for a member of your family. Among the ways that it is similar is that it can be costly. In that respect, pet insurance can be helpful in offsetting costs.

There are various types of pet insurance, some better than others. One of the common features tends to be that they offer fairly limited benefits, and compared to the premiums charged, may not make financial sense. Likewise, unlike human medical insurance, there is little uniformity in what vets will accept what insurance. Therefore, if you are considering the product, be sure that your vet accepts that kind.

Very often, it is necessary for you to pay the vet in full and thereafter submit treatment records and payment receipts to the insurer for reimbursement according to the policy terms.

Also often, there is an age limit beyond which the insurer will not issue a policy for a pet, so make sure that your pet's age does not disqualify him/her. Also, be certain that you are fully honest in the application and do not misrepresent prior illnesses or conditions. The same kinds of statutes against "preexisting condition" exclusions as exist with human insurance do not apply to pet insurance. A misrepresentation could result in the coverage being voided.

Make sure that the entity that is responsible for the payment of claims is authorized to issue insurance in the state in which you are being issued the policy. The name of the pet insurance is likely a product or brand name; it is important that you determine the identity of the insurer itself and verify that it is an authorized insurer.

If for some reason you do not qualify for pet insurance, there may be other products that can help with costs. They are in the nature of "discount plans". While they do not reimburse (indemnify) you for expenses, they have reached agreements with vets to offer a range of services for reduced rates. If you are considering a product such as this, be sure that your vet accepts the plan and will honor the discounted rate before getting the service. Be aware that the participating vets on these (like their human-medical counterparts) are subject to change.

How do you calculate stock options?
The price of stock options depends on 5 main factors:

1. strike price in relation to the prevailing price of the stock
2. Dividends

5. volatility

Item 1 determines the intrinsic value while the other 4 items determines the extrinsic value. Intrinsic value + extrinsic value = price of an option.

Is the history in the Marie Antoinette 2006 film correct?

Is the history in the Marie Antoinette 2006 film correct?
Marie-Antoinette was born on this day in 1755, and in view of the new movie about her, it is timely to consider her again - this time to focus on the pesky "Let them eat cake" story. The movie has been criticised for its historic inaccuracies and its focus on the trivia and excesses of her life, but in doing so it is surely only following the precedent of "history" itself, which - being written as is usual, by the victors and propagandists - has not been kind to her. Imagine any 14 year-old girl that you know. Imagine sending her off to another country (where she was not fluent in the language) and marrying her off within a few days to a man she had never met. Give her the huge dual responsibilities of facilitating the diplomatic relations between the two countries, and of providing an heir and preferably also a spare. Imagine this child's homesickness. Imagine her distress at the public ridicule she endured for not immediately producing an heir when the real reason was that her marriage was not able to be consummated until Louis submitted (years later) to minor surgery to correct a minor anatomical "glitch" that had made consummation impossible.
This adolescent spent her first seven years as a virgin royal bride assuaging her homesickness and filling her time with all sorts of fun and games, as any teenager would. She does not seem to have been gratuitously unkind, and motherhood, when it finally happened, and maturity, when the years gave it, made her quite courageous. Marie-Antoinette was accused of many things both during and after her life, for which there is no evidence. It is time to put to an end, once and for all, the malicious slander that she said of the hungry at the gate, when told they had no bread, "Let them eat Cake". The phrase was written when she was a child, in a fable by the philosopher Rousseau who attributed it to a "great princess" to indicate her insensitivity to the poor.
It was appropriated by post-revolutionary publicists and re-attributed to her to support their propaganda. As far as the food depicted in the movie goes, the cakes at any rate are far from historically accurate. "Cakes" in Marie-Antoinette's time were leavened with beaten eggs, or yeast, and were baked in "hoops" supported by paper cuffs and set on flat baking trays - they were not airy, fluffy, butter-cream-frosted, highly decorated concoctions which require baking powders and shaped tins, both of which were developed after she was dead.

How do betting odds work?

How do betting odds work?
you must begin to the basics steps :

The book percentage (or "overround") is defined by the Racing Post as the "sum of the quoted probabilities across all horses in a race". The bookmakers assign each horse a probability of winning, represented by its odds. The percentage of the "book" represented by particular odds can be calculated by adding one to the odds and dividing the resultant figure into 100. For example:
Evens: 100 / (1+1) = 50%
2/1: 100 / (2+1) = 33.33%
3/1: 100 / (3+1) = 25%
4/1: 100 / (4+1) = 20%, etc.
Simplistically, the overround is indicates the bookmaker's profitability on a race. If an overround is 125%, then the bookmaker can expect to make a profit of 20% (25/125). However, this profit percentage is dependent on each horse being laid for an amount proportional to their contribution to the total book. For the sake of clarity and simplicity, suppose there is a 5-horse race, in which each competitor has an equal winning chance. In a "fair" market, each would be priced at 4/1, so a bookmaker taking bets of 20 on each horse would have a perfectly matched book. Regardless of the result, he has taken 100 on the race and must pay out 100 on the winner, so cannot lose. However, neither can he win.

Components of unqualified report?

Components of unqualified report?
Seven Parts of a Standard Unqualified Audit Report

The seven parts of a standard unqualified audit report are the title, addressee, introductory paragraph, scope paragraph, opinion paragraph, name of auditor (CPA firm), and date of report. Following is a description of the contents of each part.

1. Title - Public company reports are required to begin with a title that references the "Independent Registered Public Accounting Firm". Reports for nonpublic companies may contain titles such as "Independent Auditors Report, or "Report of the Independent Auditor".

2. Addressee - This is the individual, group, entity, board of directors, and/or stockholders who retained the services of the auditor.3. Introductory Paragraph - This paragraph must state three things: "which financial statements are covered by the report, that the statements are the responsibility of management, and that the auditor has a responsibility to express an opinion" (Messier et al., 2006, p. 50).4. Scope Paragraph - This paragraph states what is involved in the audit. For public companies the scope paragraph states that the audit was performed in accordance with Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) standards, and for nonpublic companies it states that the audit was performed in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS). The scope paragraph must also state "that the audit provides only reasonable assurance that the financial statements contain no material misstatements,...that an audit involves an examination of evidence on a test basis,...5. Opinion Paragraph - This paragraph expresses the auditor's opinion in regard to the fairness of the financial statements based upon evidence obtained through the audit.

6. Name of Auditor - This is the name of the CPA firm that conducted the audit, along with a manual or printed signature of the auditor.

7. Date of Report - This is "the date on which the auditor has completed all significant auditing procedures" (Messier et al., 2006, p. 52).Circumstances that Prevent Issuance of an Unqualified Report

There are three specific circumstances that would prevent external auditors from issuing an unqualified report: scope limitation, departure from GAAP, and lack of independence of the auditor. Scope limitation results from the inability to gather adequate evidence. Departure from GAAP results from the fact that a departure from generally accepted accounting principles affects the financial statements. Lack of independence of the auditor refers to the fact that the auditor is not independent of the entity that he or she is auditing.

Where did L'Oral come from?

Where did L'Oral come from?
In 1907, Eugne Schueller, a young French chemist, developed an innovative hair-colour formula. He called his improved hair dye Aurole. Schueller formulated and manufactured his own products, which he then sold to Parisian hairdressers.

In 1909, Schueller registered his company, the Socit Franaise de Teintures Inoffensives pour Cheveux ("Safe Hair Dye Company of France" literally "French Society for Inoffensive Hair Dyes"), the original L'Oral. The guiding principles of the company, which eventually became L'Oral, were research and innovation in the interest of beauty.

In 1920, the small company employed three chemists. By 1950, the research teams were 100 strong; that number reached 1,000 by 1984 and is nearly 2,000 today.

L'Oral got its start in the hair-color business, but the company soon branched out into other cleansing and beauty products. L'Oral currently markets over 500 brands and many thousands of individual products in all sectors of the beauty business: hair color, permanents, hair styling, body and skin care, cleansers, makeup and fragrances. The company's products are found in a wide variety of distribution channels, from hair salons and perfumeries to hyper - and supermarkets, health/beauty outlets, pharmacies and direct mail.

L'Oral has five worldwide research and development centers: two in France: Aulnay and Chevilly; one in the U.S.: Clark, New Jersey; one in Japan: Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture; and in 2005, one was established in Shanghai , China . A future facility in the US will be in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey.

(Bloomberg) -- The subprime crisis that's caused so much trauma for hedge funds and investment banks has brought only good news for John Paulson. He's the manager of more than $7 billion in hedge fund money keyed to mortgage credit.Paulson started warning his investors back in the middle of 2006 that the frenzy to build and sell housing was a bubble about to pop. His New York-based firm, Paulson & Co., made big bets predicting the edifice would soon come crashing down. The wager paid off in the first nine months of 2007, when Paulson's Credit Opportunities funds rose an average of 340 percent. That gain earned Paulson an estimated $1.14 billion in performance fees for the nine months ended on Sept. 28. Fees on Paulson's other eight funds bring his total to $2.69 billion, which puts Paulson and co-manager Paolo Pellegrini at the top of Bloomberg's ranking of best-paid hedge fund managers. John Paulson is no relation to Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, the former chief executive officer of Goldman Sachs Group Inc.

Why is wealth maximization a better operating goal than profit maximization?

Why is wealth maximization a better operating goal than profit maximization?
Everyone knows that profit is the life blood of every organization.Profit maximization is the primary or main objective oforganizations, but under the method of profit maximization thepurpose is to increase sales and profit. Less importance is givenfor consumer interest. Any queries against product or services isnot considered and importance will be less per this method. So atthe beginning organizations may be successful in its goal ofearning high profits, but the organization will definitely sufferloss in future. When do backwardation and contango trends occur in commodity markets?
Backwardation trends are often occurring under expectations for oversupplied markets where buyers dictate conditions. Backwardation trends are common for non-perishable commodities perceived as abundant, inexpensive, and expensive to store. Crude Oil and Natural Gas were in the past frequently viewed as such. Contango trends are often occurring under expectations for undersupplied markets where sellers dictate conditions. Contango trends are common for scarce, expensive (forgone alternative interest is a huge factor), non-perishable and expensive to store commodities like Gold.

What do you think is the pupose and importance of taxation?

What do you think is the pupose and importance of taxation?
The main reason any government has tax really is to manage and control the country. Think about it this way, the government through collective tax such as
- regressive tax (GST)
- progressive tax (marginal personal/income tax)
and
- Proportional tax (Company tax)
They are able to through collecting such funds, pay for their ventures, firstly the governments requires funds to run the country, so through the revenue the collect, the pay for transfer payments, social welfare, collective, public and merit goods, such as education and healthcare.
The government depending on the current state of the economy e.g. boom or trough will make decisions on whether to have a balanced, surplus or deficit budget, following the market equilibrium concept
where :

T + S + M = I + X + G

So depending on market trends and economical factors, the government will allocate the funds collected via tax, to redistribute it and fund the economy :)

What is the objective of a financial report by a non-profit?

What is the objective of a financial report by a non-profit?
When you think of a "not-profit" organization think of that a largely a taxing status, a designation for tax purposes. The only real differences between non-profits and for-profits is that non-profits can have access to courses of funds (government grants and other funds, foundation and trust funds, etc) which the for for-profits don't. And the non-profit exists for some good cause like provide counseling services or education and training or save the whales or whatever. Bottom line though is that non-profits largely have the same concerns as for-profits. They too need to pay the rent, utilities, pay its employees, insurance, etc. etc. Additionally, non-profits have a board of directors it needs to answer too. This board has the responsibility to ensure the money is being spent to provide the products or services the organization is intended to provide. In order to do that they have to have a budget and hence a financial report to track where the money is coming from and going to so they don't over spend, so they can keep their doors open.

What is the going rate for sandblasting?

What is the going rate for sandblasting?
COMERCIAL APPLICATION- NON-ELEVATED- NO CONFINED SPACE- $62.00 HR - SEATTLE WA

Way off. Try roughly $200 an hr. Silica sand runs $60/ton. It costs $60 a ton to dispose of. You go through about a 1/3 a ton an hr. that's $40.
Add on $30 an hr to run a generator if you rent it. Now your at $70. The sand has to be tested to proved it doesnt have any lead in it at disposal time. Another $100. Insurance, shop supplies like hoses, tear offs, tarps, electricity, rent, and then you have to pay someone to do it.

I was really surprised when I ran the hard numbers and came up with $120 an hr just in cost. Then you have to make a profit! 200 is fair. its crappy work to boot, and dangerous without the right protective equipment.

How do you find the y-intercept when you have the slope and a point?

How do you find the y-intercept when you have the slope and a point?
you use the equation y=mx+b; you use your point values to put in for x and y; slope is entered in for m and then you solve for b
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
if you want to find the equation of a slope and point:
you use y-y*=m(x-x*)
the y* and x* are the numbers from your point
for example if you have the slope(m) 8/1 and the point (1,2)=(x*,y*)
then you would do the following-
1.........y - y* = m(x - x*)
2.........y - 2 = 8(x - 1)
3.........y - 2 = 8x - (-8)
4.........y - 2 = 8x + 8.........because eight x minus negative one equals eight x plus one
5.........y = 8x + 10.......because you add 2 to both sides of the equation
...........y = 8x + 10 is the equation answer
...........if you want to find the y-intercept from that:
6.........y-intercept equals (0,10)

What are some of the brands for regular gum?

What are some of the brands for regular gum?
5 rocks in flavor and the amount of time it tastes good, but if you want an inexpensive but long-lasting gum, try Extra(which I'm chewing right now). You can get Extra at any store for about $1.29, while 5 is about $2.29. If you just want to chew, Juicy fruit is good too, at about $.99, but the taste is short-lived. If you want gum that tastes good, I'd try Icebreakers. They're expensive, though, about $2.99, and doesn't last long, but the flavor is wonderful. I always have gum at hand, usually Extra or 5.

Yes, I am indeed a gum expert(Well, as much as a 12 year old can be) and have been chewing it nonstop since I was old enough to chew. I have tasted nearly every brand and flavor of gum and love most of them.

Whose problem is poverty?

Whose problem is poverty?
Third world poverty is at least in part the problem (and responsibility) of the rich nations, whose wealth is largely derived from the cheap resourses and labour from the third world. Much of the problem is due to debt ,stemming back to the massive IMF/ World Bank "development" loan programs of the 1970s.
Haiti , for example, has been exploited by France and the U.S for five centurys (much of France's wealth comes from Haiti), and yet it remains in debt , and very impoverished.
The rich nations, especially Britain and the U.S. , also have an increasing number of poor, and a growing wealth divide, and the question of whose problem it is depends on your politics. The reasons for the U.S. now having record poverty are obvious- destruction of its manufacturing base (except weapons), replaced by an economy based on the consumption of cheap imports and off-shoring of jobs, along with financialization of the economy. The housing bubble and GFC perpetrated by Wall St. banks and financial institutions has resulted in thousands of middle class Americans being made homeless. It is a problem created by the rich and powerful, and is also a great problem for them, due to the social unrest it will inevitably lead to. Britain is not far behind - poverty and the wealth gap are at levels not seen since the 1920s. After the GFC, the combined wealth of Britain's richest had increased sharply, while austerity measures were implemented - cuts to social services, unemployment benefits and pensions, as well as increased charges for utilities.

Characteristics of traditional manufacturing environment and modern business environment?

Characteristics of traditional manufacturing environment and modern business environment?
Manufacturing is the production of goods for use or sale using labor and machines, tools, chemical and biological processing, or formulation. The term may refer to a range of human activity, from handicraft to high tech, but is most commonly applied to industrial production, in which raw materials are transformed into finished goods on a large scale. Such finished goods may be used for manufacturing other, more complex products, such as aircraft, household appliances or automobiles, or sold to wholesalers, who in turn sell them to retailers, who then sell them to end users - the "consumers".
Manufacturing takes turns under all types of economic systems. In a free market economy, manufacturing is usually directed toward the mass production of products for sale to consumers at a profit. In a collectivist economy, manufacturing is more frequently directed by the state to supply a centrally planned economy. In mixed market economies, manufacturing occurs under some degree of government regulation.
Modern manufacturing includes all intermediate processes required for the production and integration of a product's components. Some industries, such as semiconductor and steel manufacturers use the term fabrication instead.
