A certain type of lathe costs seven times as much as a certain make of drilling machine if two such lathes and three such drilling machines cost 8500 what is the cost of each machine?
Cost of drill = x.
Cost of lathe = 7x.
Cost of two lathes and 3 drills = 7x + 7x + x + x + x = 17x.
If 17x = 8500, then x = 500.
Each drill costs 500.
Each lathe costs 3500.
