How can a CEO put policies and strategies into place to ensure employees job satisfication?
Look back into the history of Colonization, a trip into memory lane. The Greatest empires, the Romans and then the English were more successful and the the populations in their colonies were more 'satisfied with their situation'. The result was that the Roman and English colonies in general were more successful in terms of social and economic progress. The people did not "mind" being colonized. In fact, compared to the colonies of other powers, the Roman and English Colonies were generally proud of their situation.

The Romans and the English Practiced Indirect Rule, a delegation of leadership and supervision at all levels of the organization. The result was a feeling of ownership of responsibility and accountability at all levels.

The littlest member of your organization should have some sort of leadership role toward the smallest ones bellow him/her.
You must reward strong and effective leadership at all levels.

This is the concept of "The fist would not be a fist without the pinky finger." and all fingers take pride in the blow the fist administers.

Most Policies and strategies in organizations today revolve around the concept of a Diktat, where the few oversee the majority. The result is kin to the German and French colonization method of Direct Rule.

You will find Relatively less dictators, less disgruntled populations, less corruption and more socio-economic advancement among the Ex Roman and English Colonies versus Direct Rule which resulted in the most and worst Dictators the world has ever known.
Examples of the products of Direct Rule the central African nations, Western Cameroon, Zaire (Congo) Central African Republic, The Republic of Tchad, for instance, all results of the Direct Rule system. Vietnam is a product of the Direct Rule system and so is China. Spain practiced Direct rule as well, look at Mexico and other South and central American countries, Equatorial Guinea.

Now Look at the products of Indirect Rule, Ghana, Nigeria, Former Western Cameroon, Australia, India, Canada, United States, The Republic of South Africa, Kenya, just to name a few.

Because of the absolute power Direct Rule gives to the few, it results in abuse of power, extreme corruption, exodus of the most intelligent minds and the most creative minds to other countries.

A company with a Direct Rule system bleeds strong leaders, intelligent, innovative and effective people like a patient with hemophilia.

These people go to your competition and work to bring you down.

Indirect Rule fosters basic qualities of successful people and because they have a sense of accountability and ownership in achievement, (We all take power in ownership), their people tend to stay and seek more responsibilities and less independence.

Strong Leaders are effective followers if they are allowed to lead.

Effective and creative people are more so if they are allowed to express their innovative ways.

The English and Romans were able to sustain their empires longer because their colonies were happier and more effective overall.

Companies with a successful Indirect Rule System, Google, believe it or not but The United states Military, Especially the US NAVY. Most US small commercial Banks, Idexx Laboratories in Maine, Apple, 3M, Allied Cook Construction in Maine, just to name a few.

In these companies with Indirect Rule you will find folks that have been there a week or over 45+ years and if you speak to them, you will find they feel a sense of patriotism, ownership, that the companies are Theirs.
