What are the advantages and disadvantages of styrofoam?
Advantages
Sturdy and light so suitable for packing, fruit boxes etc.
Heatproof, so it can hold hot liquids.
Cheap to produce.
Disadvantages
Difficult to dispose of.
Recyclers only want large amounts.
Never degrades in landfills.
Brittle. It easily breaks and little pieces get blown everywhere in the wind, eventually ending up in waterways and oceans.
