How have new technologies affected the rate of cultural change?

How have new technologies affected the rate of cultural change?
In many ways, yes.
Computer, internet, mobile phones, texting, etc. have all affected cultural norms in positive and negative ways.
For instance, while we are better connected and can get more accomplished with the use of internet, smart phones, and the like, we also are more accessible. This makes it difficult for many people to get any peace and be alone with their thoughts. Whenever someone wants to reach you, and they can, day or night, it's both good and bad. The way this is affecting culture has yet to be fully discovered. However, in some ways, people find it harder to plan and daydream. It's harder to follow a deep thought long enough to let you come to any useful conclusions. This makes people more demanding and impatient. It makes us a "drive-through" or "fast food" type of society, leaving less time for family talks, walks, and teachable moments with our children. The traditional dinnertime ritual is interrupted. Quiet time to write in a journal, for instance, is just not easy to find.
I see a movement away from being plugged in all the time. I see more people turning off their mobile phones when having lunch with friends. I think we should all encourage this, as it helps real relationships develop and maintain.
