Where does Del Monte originally come from?
The brand name comes from the Hotel Del Monte (Monterey, California) and was originally used for a blend of coffee made especially for the hotel. The company was one of eighteen west coast canning and packaging firms which merged to form the California Fruit Canners Association, and Del Monte was the marketing name for their premium products. In 1916 CFCA became California Packing Corp. (Calpak), after merging with 3 other large canning companies. In 1967, the company was renamed Del Monte Corp.Where the name for the Hotel Del Monte came from is unknown.
