What country have the best technology in the world?

What country have the best technology in the world?
Firstly, what is "best" is in large part an opinion, which is up to the individual. E.g., which is the best technology: forks, or chopsticks? For the sake of being thorough, let's also take into account what technology is more "advanced." I'll say a cell phone is more "advanced" than an abacus, because the cell phone incorporates more previous technologies than the abacus.

The word "technology" applies to just about anything man-made. Therefore, the answer to your question depends on the specific technology you are thinking of.

For example, if you look at space travel, few countries could compete with the USA's space shuttle (before it was retired this year [July 2011]). However, if you compare more basic transportation systems like trains, you would find that many countries have more advanced trains than the USA.

Besides the fact that most countries specialize in different technologies than others, the impact of the internet and other communications technology should be taken into account to more fully answer your question; Today, scientists and engineers from nations all over the world collaborate to create and improve technology. It is impossible to credit a single nation for much of the technology we use today, because so much of it is shared worldwide. If you look at automobile technology, for example, you would find that American, German, Japanese, Korean, etc made autos all perform similarly; For a lot of everyday technology like cars, what is "best" or more "advanced" is mostly a matter of opinion, and can change each year or even less time.

If you're looking for which country has the most technologies that are the most advanced in the world (and that would also take into account opinions about how to calculate this...) I bet you would come up with whichever countries have the most people who are connected to the internet. I would guess this would be the USA, Japan, China, maybe the European Union if you counted it as one nation.
