Why is management achievement oriented?

Why is management achievement oriented?
Unless a business has a monopoly, and very few do, then the business is in a competitive environment.

The mindset of successful business executives says that a company is either moving forward or it is moving backward. If a business were to stay at a given sales level and a given profit level, it will actually fall behind because the competition will be moving forward.

The competition is for the best customers, the best suppliers, the best contracts, the best employees, the best sales revenue, the best market share, the best profit margin, the best quality etc. That's the world we live in. So businesses that want to survive find that they must set objectives and goals that reflect growth.

When a business ends the year with very positive results, they start the next year needing to further improve on their results in order to stay ahead.

That's the world as management knows it.
To sum it up, achievement adds to profitability, thus a company seeks it in all aspects of the company's operations.
